On a cold, dreary day...

My Junior League placement this year is Habitat for Humanity.  I've spent several Saturdays over the last couple of months building houses - I've done everything from caulking and painting to insulation and siding.  But nothing has been more challenging than our build this past Saturday - FRAMING!

Conditions were pretty miserable - it drizzle-rained the last couple of hours on site.  We were soaked and covered in mud.  But seeing progress at the end of the day made it all worth it.

When we got started Saturday morning, our project looked like this...

A note about a common misconception about Habitat houses - they aren't given away for free.  Homeowners get mortgages through Habitat but they don't pay any interest.  And owners have to put in 250 hours of sweat equity on Habitat projects and take a bunch of classes on budgeting, etc.  For more information, visit www.habitat.org
