"Jerry? Who's Jerry?"
The man sitting next to me last Saturday night at "Jerry World" (aka AT&T Stadium - home of the Dallas Cowboys) kept screaming, "GO JERRY." So I asked him, "Who's Jerry?" He was referring to the Bruins second-string quarterback Jerry Neuheisel who came into the game after our starting quarterback was injured in the first half of the game. Things looked bleak, very bleak and we'd pretty much lost all hope that we were going to win this game.
And you have to understand why this is such a big deal... We're Bruins... in Texas... playing the Texas Longhorns... in Texas... surrounded by our neighbors... in Texas... who love them some Longhorn football. Yes, it was just a football game, but the prize was being able to hold one's head high after the win. But things looked bad.
The Longhorns were up with a couple minutes left in the game. Ryan and I wanted to beat traffic (and avoid the minions) so we made our way to the exit. But then it happened... the Bruins started marching down the field. Then sure enough, with little time to spare, Jerry Neuheisel scored the game-winning touchdown and we beat the Longhorns 20-17. I screamed so much and so loud that I couldn't talk for two days. But it was so worth it.
The best part was watching the Bruins raise young Jerry Neuheisel onto their shoulders and carry him off the field into the tunnel. It was an awesome day.
A bunch of Ryan's former teammates were in town... big dudes... really big dudes.
